Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County is hosting a Poetry Contest in honor of National Poetry Month. The theme of each poem should highlight homes! The purpose of this competition is to raise awareness about affordable housing through fun, engaging poems submitted by the public. Anyone is allowed to participate and submit a poem as many times as they would like. To be entered into the competition, each post needs to include the hashtag #poemsforhomes and the post needs to tag @habitatskc. The poems can be submitted via Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook. 2017 Poems for Homes Contest

THE RULES:

I. Sponsor

Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County (HabitatSKC), 560 Naches Ave SW, STE 110, Renton, WA 98057, is the sponsor of the 2017 Habitat Poems for Homes contest.

II. Term

The contest begins at 12am April 1st, 2017. Entries must be received by 11pm on April 20th, 2017.

III. Eligibility

This contest is open to the public. Anyone is eligible to participate.

IV. How to enter

1. Create a Poem about Homes

2. Submit your poem on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook

3. Tag HabitatSKC in the post

4. Use the hashtag #poemsforhomes in the description of the post

V. Number of entries

There is no limit to number of entries one person can submit.

VI. Prize

Seven winners will be selected which will include: most creative poem, Habitat Staff Favorite, most thought provoking, most comedic, second runner-up, first runner-up and a grand prize winner. Grand Prize includes a Habitat t-shirt, a Habitat water bottle, a T-handle Screwdriver and Socket Set, a Habitat Frisbee, garden gloves, a Habitat sticker, Habitat mints, Habitat USB splitter, and a Habitat key chain. First and Second runner-up prizes includes a Habitat water bottle, a T-handle Screwdriver and Socket Set, a Habitat Frisbee, garden gloves, a Habitat sticker, Habitat mints, Habitat USB splitter, and a Habitat key chain. The remaining winners receive garden gloves, a Habitat sticker, Habitat mints, Habitat USB splitter, and a Habitat key chain. Featured submissions will be shared by HabitatSKC (at its discretion) from April 23rd, 2017– April 30th, 2017.

VII. Judging criteria and selection of winners 

At least three judges will be selected from the Habitat for Humanity community. Poems will be scored along applicability to culture, power, comfort and/or happiness; originality; creativity; and overall cultural relevance.

VIII. Entrant and third party licenses/releases

Each entrant grants to HabitatSKC non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, assignable, royalty-free, perpetual right to use, reproduce, publish and alter, in whole or in part, individually or in combination with other poems, in any and all media known or hereafter known, for education, illustration, promotion, art, editorial, advertising and trade, or any other lawful purpose whatsoever, with or without attribution to the entrant and without further compensation. This license does not convey ownership of copyright to HabitatSKC. Each entrant will retain ownership of copyright and can use the submissions for any lawful purpose. If an entry contains any material or elements that are not owned by the entrant and/or which are subject to the rights of third parties, and/or if any person appears in the entry, the entrant is responsible for obtaining before the submission of the entry the release and consent necessary to permit the use and exhibition of the entry without compensation. Entries cannot use or contain any Habitat-owned trade or service marks, including the Habitat for Humanity® stylized word mark, THREE PERSONS UNDER A HOUSE design mark, or the HABITAT FOR HUMANITY service mark.

IX. Limitation of liability

By participating in the contest, each entrant waives all claims and releases, discharges and agrees to hold harmless Habitat for Humanity International, and any Habitat for Humanity affiliated organizations, successors, assigns, licensees, officers, trustees, employees, nominees, designees, volunteers and agents from any and all liability arising out of an entrant’s participation in the contest; any contest-related activity; a breach or violation of the rules; the acceptance of any prize awarded for the contest; and the use of the submission, including  but not limited to any claims for royalties or proceeds from the use of the submission, or any claims of slander or invasion of privacy.

X. Conditions

The contest is governed by the laws of the state of Washington, and entrants agree that the exclusive forum and jurisdiction for any dispute shall be the state or federal courts in the state of Washington. All federal, state, and local laws, regulations and restrictions apply. The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.

HabitatSKC is not responsible for any lost, stolen, late, mutilated, incomplete or misdirected entries. An entry will be void if HabitatSKC determines that the entry is not an original, or if the entry is illegible, incomplete, damaged, late, altered, counterfeit, produced in error, or obtained through fraud or theft.

XI. By participating in the contest, each entrant agrees and/ or warrants:

To be bound by the rules. The decision of the judges and HabitatSKC is final and binding on all matters relating to the contest. Each entry is original and the entrant is the sole and exclusive owner and rights holder of the submitted entry (or, if not, they have obtained the release and consent necessary to include the entry in the contest). They have the right to submit an entry for the contest. An entry submitted does not infringe upon any third-party rights, including but not limited to copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, publicity or confidential information rights. HabitatSKC can use the contest winner’s name or social media tag (ex. @HabitatSKC), entry, likeness or voice in any media or with any publicity or advertising that relates to the contest or relates to future promotions without compensation or approval (except where prohibited by law).

If the contest winners and/or finalists cannot be traced or do not respond within seven days to HabiatSKC after receiving a winner notification via the Social Media account that submitted the entry, or if the contest winner refuses their respective prize or is ineligible for the prize awarded, the prize will be forfeited and HabitatSKC, at its sole discretion, may choose whether to award the forfeited prize to another contest entrant.

XII. Right to cancel or suspend the contest

HabitatSKC reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest at any time and for any reason.

XIII. Binding agreement

These rules form a legally binding agreement between HabitatSKC and each entrant with respect to the contest. Each entrant should ensure he or she has read these rules carefully. Entrants may not submit an entry to the contest and will not be eligible for the prizes described in the rules unless entrants agree to these rules. The submission of an entry in the contest constitutes an entrant’s agreement to these rules.

XIV. Severability

If any provision(s) of the rules are held to be invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions of the rules will remain in full force and effect.

XV. Winners

Winners will be contacted via the Social Media account that posted the winning poem. All recognition for winning with be tied either to their official Facebook name or Instagram/Twitter tag ex. Facebook: Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County; Instagram: @habitatskc; Twitter: @habitatskc. Winners can either receive their prizes by collecting them from the Habitat office in Renton, or through mail.
