You can make a difference without lifting a hammer! While Habitat is known for construction volunteering, behind the scenes we need volunteers in our stores, reaching out to neighborhoods, and keeping gears turning in our office. It takes a community to build communities!

Habitat Stores

Did you know that Habitat for Humanity Stores win Green awards for diverting tons of useable materials from landfills and reselling them at discount prices? Our two locations in Bellevue and Southcenter need volunteers to sort and stock our ever-changing inventory of items, so we can sell them to build more homes. Store volunteers also ride our trucks to help with pickups, greet customers, clean & refurbish items, and help with administrative tasks.

Community Outreach

Outreach volunteers help represent Habitat in the community.

Some outreach teams go door-to-door, surveying community needs, visually canvassing neighborhoods, hanging door signs, and talking to residents. Other teams represent Habitat at community and company events: talking to visitors, taking requests for more information, and handing out flyers and swag.

As an outreach volunteer, you would transport, set up, and take down materials for the job. Most events are during the work week, while some take place on weekends and evenings, all over King County.

Special Events

From our Annual Luncheon in the spring, to smaller house parties and Affinity Build events, special events volunteers make sure things go off without a hitch. Think about joining us to prepare venues, build displays, greet guests, hand out gifts, arrange food, direct traffic, and more!

Homeowner Support

When new families join our program, they are joined by a “Family Support Partner,” a long-term volunteer who coaches, mentors, helps with the application process, and works alongside families as they complete their sweat equity hours.

We also regularly need help from volunteers to translate written materials into other languages and interpret during meetings with families and community members. The languages we need most are: Amharic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chinese, Oromo (Ethiopian), Khmer, Tagalog, Spanish, and Farsi.

Office / Administration

Do you prefer an office setting? Consider volunteering at our Renton office! Regular tasks include data entry, preparing mailings, online research, phone banking, and greeting visitors.

If you have specialized skills, we may also have special projects for you in the office or remotely. Past volunteer assignments have included financial modeling, government advocacy, market research, targeted fundraising, project-based consulting, sourcing goods, documenting Green standards, social media support, and outreach projects.

Photography & Videography

We have ongoing needs for capturing the Habitat experience from different angles–from homeowners’ journeys, to volunteer groups onsite, VIPs at our special events, in-progress and completed homes, new donation items to our stores–and more. These shots fuel our social media channels, which can become part of your portfolio as well.
