Volunteers always wanted!

Our volunteers have a lot of roles to fill– from providing helpful customer service to creating DIY projects and displays, to painting store signs and organizing stock. We’ll assess your natural abilities to find a place where you’ll fit in and a role that interests you.

If you already have experience working at a store–or working with a team– we’ll find you a spot where your skills are most needed. We know what you’ve learned will help us in our mission to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.

1) First Step

The first step is to attend a volunteer orientation. They’re held on the 1st Thursday of the month, year-round. You can RSVP for a volunteer orientation by emailing volunteer@habitatskc.org.

What will you be doing at the stores? Here are some special tasks that we need the most help with:

DONATION PICKUP

As a donation pickup volunteer you’ll be assisting our ReStore staff in loading and unloading donations. Here you are on the front line, getting a first glimpse at what will soon be on our sales floor. You can help us save $160 a day by volunteering as a donation pickup assistant!

SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media is our advertising! If you have skills in social media marketing, or you’d like to build them, we have a task for you. We want to make sure our inventory is being displayed to our customers consistently. Your task would be to take pictures of merchandise and write content for our social media pages, based on a pre-created social media calendar. You get to be creative, and the stores earn more money!

Common Volunteer Questions (FAQ)

What is the maximum volunteer group size for the stores?

At our Bellevue Store, group sizes must be limited to 10 team members or less. At Southcenter, we can accept teams of up to 40 people (with 2 or more weeks’ notice).

What days can I volunteer at the Stores?

Tuesday- Saturday from 10am-6pm. For groups of 10 volunteers or more, we can accommodate Monday volunteer days at our Southcenter location (with 2 or more weeks’ notice).

Do I have to work for the entire day?

At the stores, you can serve a half day or full day, in the morning or afternoon. You can select your choice easily on VolunteerHub.

What should I wear to volunteer at the Stores?

We require all volunteers to wear closed toed shoes, long pants, and clothing they don’t mind getting dirty. We recommend dressing for the elements if you are working in Southcenter at our warehouse.

What is the minimum age for volunteering?

16. If you are 16 or 17, we require an adult to be present for your entire volunteer day, and we have a youth registration waiver that must be completed prior to volunteering at the stores.

Where do I park?

Both Stores offer free street parking and a free parking lot.

Will food be provided?

You will need to bring your own meals, but we do provide a refrigerator and microwave. In addition, both stores have food options within a few minutes’ drive.
