We wanted to send out a big thank you to everyone who came out last Saturday for our special 10 home dedication. The Sammamish Cottages Community was the culmination of years of planning and hard work, and it was so wonderful to see our new Habitat Homeowners get their keys and start this exciting new chapter in their lives. We are so grateful to the City of Sammamish for donating this property, and for welcoming these families with open arms.

Habitat for Humanity Seattle – King County CEO Brett D’Antonio spoke to the gathering about the event.

“These 10 homes are going to provide a safe and stable place to live for many generations of families here in Sammamish. This cottage style of development maximizes the open space and provides common areas for neighbors and family members to come together. These days a lot of us don’t know our neighbors, but these families do. They have been out here for the last two years working their sweat equity hours alongside volunteers and our own staff building their community.”

Sammamish Mayor Christie Malchow was invited on stage to speak about the project.

“The land for this project was donated by the city in 2013 to build 10 homes. Not houses, homes for families. Kids under the age of 12 are going to walk right down that hill to Discovery Elementary School. What a blessing that they are so close! For those kids that are older, they get to walk right up the hill to Skyline High School because it is just that close. What a wonderful location Habitat has here!”

As many of you probably know, Habitat relies on volunteers to build and repair homes. On this project alone, 1,612 volunteers contributed 15,800 hours. Thanks for all your hard work! We also wanted to send a big thank you to our Americorps members who work alongside our regular volunteers. Your help was invaluable on this project!

We also wanted to extend our appreciation to Lowes, Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, The Aven Foundation, Homestreet Bank and all of our other amazing sponsors.
